Alberni or Campbell River this weekend?

Hello everyone.

Heading out with dad this weekend in his boat - rain is in the forecast and his boat has a hard top and doors so will be more civilized to fish with.

It takes the same time for us to go to Alberni (includes the inlet and sound) or CR (out of BB). I know both areas well and don't have a preference so can't decide which way to go. Reports for both locations seem spotty at the moment. We prefer chins and hos to humpies and dogs.
Where would you go and why?

Thanks.

That's a tough decision, but my vote goes to Brown's Bay. If you fish with anchovies, that should eliminate any pinks or chum, and if the Chinook and coho are absent, at least you can drop something pink down to get some action.

There was some good coho action around Mactush and across from China Creek last Saturday, they liked white hootchies with a green flasher.

Good luck, lets us know how you make out.

Cheers,

BL

Very few springs left in the Alnerni canal. And coho are spotty. Outside may be better for the latter, but methinks springs are basically toast. The river is an option... Especially given the sky-water forecast.

Thanks BL & Nog.
Leaving home now, still undecided, may have to get dad to make an executive decision that way the results are on his shoulders LOL
Better than working!

Everything is hitting on the anchovie in BB... including springs, pinks, coho, and chum.
6" anchovie even... Shakers are hitting it too. Today was not a good spring day, but a bright 37.5 came onto Bruce's boat yesterday... Overall today was probably the worst day in months out there, but guessing it was just an off day.. I had a few pop offs, 3 big coho, and a slew of pinks today, but no spring love like Sunday and Wed... Will try again soon. White glow hootchies also seem to have their times. I threw everything in the box at them today and couldn't get too many sniffs of interest.

Went to PA; it is like home for us.
Lots of hos jumping in the inlet but they ain't bitin! We managed 2 in 3 hours so headed out.
Had some WILD bottom action including a ling that would not fit in my net, and I have the huge Scotty net.
Also fought a sea lion for a ling, and won the battle. Note: there is a blonde sea lion (no joke, it has very light coloured fur) (sheesh, I can hear the jokes coming back already) that is VERY aggressive working the Pill Point area, it chased my bait almost right onto the swim grid about 15 minutes later, and was still getting close this a.m.

All in all a nice weekend for weather, it only rained at night.
The old man enjoyed the heck out of himself, but his fav part was listening to me cuss out the sea lion while crapping my pants with fear!

Hit 2 more hos, one off Link and one off the wall. Nice size and great scraps.
Noticed the sea lions were playing with mostly bottom fish which makes me think the big push of hos is still not in, the lions are waiting for them.

Have a great week everyone!
