Abel Mooching Reel

Abel makes some darn fine fly fishing reels. Kinda pricey @$700 but can customize the finish if that's your thing. Fully machined, cork drag, made in the USA. Anyone have any hands on experience with one of these or know someone who does?

Try "building" one on their site! Lots of colour options for the housing, spool, handles etc......pink too!! Some of those "fish scale" patterns look pretty good as well.

Yep, gorgeous looking reels from a quality manufacturer but that price tag is like a kick in the nuts!!

If you go through the build process and keep it simple it was 725-750 bucks...and only 700 if you keep it all black. I like how i said "only" when referring to a $700 reel. BUt at least its not a 1000.

i bought several of Steve Abel's reels when he was just getting the business going. they are bullet proof and have accounted for many really fine, mean, saltwater trouphy fish. not sure about the current product as Steve sold this business some years back. that said, i would not spend that kind of money today as there are a few really fine saltwater reels available for far less money.

Sweet another fly reel with 2 handles and no freespool being called a mooching reel.................yawn.............but wait I can get it in Roosterfish color for $1000..........epic! If only islander would make a LA version of the MR2 then we would be set...I don't understand how these manufacturers can under play the freespool, gotta have it.
