I've thought I hope a big one doesn't hit when I'm sleeping on the boat up there in July. The fault of Nootka is the most active site along Van Island and closest to shore I believe. So there won't be much to time to clear out to high ground.
No the big one is still coming......
That fault is huge and this last one was not on the fault line that we are concerned with.
This last one was a minor slip fault halfway between two major ones.
It's those major ones we need to be aware of.

go to this website and you can see a history of earthquakes. http://atlas.nrcan.gc.ca/site/english/maps/environment/naturalhazards/earthquakes/majorearthquakes
Zoom in on the west coast..
Use the tool "get info from map" by cliking it with your mouse.
Once you have the "tool" you can click the dot on the map to see the detail.
The big one would be like the one near the south part of the island.
Cascadia Subduction Zone
Look at the one near comox valley......
Better get the emergency box restocked......

No correlation...different fault, different type of quake...the one we're concerned about is a subduction or mega-thrust quake (one plate going under another, as apposed to a strike-slip like the ones over the past week or so). As you can imagine, the wave greated by a major subduction quake could be massive (as in Japan recently). The major shaking from a subduction quake typically lasts quite a bit longer than that of a strike-slip.
All known quakes of magnitude 9 or greater have been subductions.
After that one off of VI two weeks ago I signed up for NWS-WCATWC tsunami Information (I was fishing at tide-water on the coast that day and didn't have a clue there'd been a tsunami warning until I got back to the city so I thought signing up for BIG WAVE DAVE notification might be a good idea)
What's nuts is there have been earthquakes NEARLY EVERY DAY since I signed up---a whole pile of them off Alaska, now this one (Indicated as having been "85 miles SW of Port Alice)
I fished today in 5 foot seas---wonder how my boat would handle a 30 foot sea....

i was in waikiki the night of the first one a few weeks ago, strange night there, all the cars left and not many people walking around. i saw what looked like a thousand boats out in the deep water within after an hour of the horn, IT WAS LOUD!! nothing at all happened...
I was bank fishing at the mouth of the Hoh River---remote location, no people, no Coast Guard, no nada, but a really nice shot-gun barrel for an incoming wave to funnel up into....
Someone on this site suggested an email alert website (NOAA) after the 28 October rumble---I signed right up for it. Here it is again if you guys missed it:
