31# Coho hangin in Toquart

My buddy is in Toquart fishing right now, called him today when he was out on the water to see how he was making out. Said fishing was slow but he asked what the biggest coho was that I've seen when I was guiding up north and I told him I saw a 24# coho in Milbanke and heard of a 27# coho caught in Milbanke. He said there was a 31# coho hanging on the scale in Toquart yesterday, just wondering if anyone else heard about this yet. That ties the original record caught in Cow Bay. That's a hog.

Not huge numbers of Coho inside Clayoquot Sound, but MOST fish we have seen are over 12lbs, many 15+

Offshore sizes are very big on average, and the baitfish stocks being very abundant will only help these fish get bigger over the next month.

31 lbs sounds huge, but not unrealistic...

He's coming back today, I'll see if I can get some more info when i talk to him and give an update. I even aksed him if it was a chum and he said no for sure.

I have fished out of Toquart for many years.I have never seen a scale. We fished sat afternoon. One spring at 17 lbs.very slow. The wind really picked up saturday afternoon so not many boats outside. We cut thru the group to Swale.Lots of boats did not see anything caught.Even the Harriscove boats left.

So whats the deal-- is there a scale or not??? If that can be verified , it would go a long way to verifying this report.

Personally, I would sure like to see a pic of a 30#+ coho.. for one that big I would hope someone took pics.. Anyone?

Toquart is a family based camping/fishing location. The fish cleaning station is a bench on a 20 degree angle on the beach next to the ramp.If your lucky the water system is working.Toquart is not a place that people really care about how big your fish is.Hench no scale.Too say that a 30 lb coho came in and was weighed at Toquart is,,,well whats the best way to say this? Unlikely.I would think that anyone with any fish experiance, seeing a 30 lb coho would have taken a picture.Something is not ringing true.

Maybe coincidence but last year there was a report of a 30 lb coho at Toquart as well in the 3rd week of Aug while I was there for a week, Bruce (the guy who looks after the campsite) was the one spreading the word last yr but only he saw the fish. Sounds fishy to me! I have been going there for 11 yrs and don't recall a scale there either.

Ok I finally got the word today I talked to my buddy in person. There is a scale there, between the two sign that talk about Toquart Bay and the Native Band. It's a slide scale. There were pictures taken but my buddy didnt know anyone that took them, also Bruce was there also to witness this. So there sounds like there was a crowd of people that did witness it on the scale. Another guy that works with us was up there with his dad who is one of the seasonal guys in Toquart and he aslo witnessed it. I know everyone would love to see a pic to prove it but I don't have one sorry.Hopefully one will pop up on this site.
