Getting back at it!By Adrian O'Connor,
This past Sunday was the first annual Trotac fishing derby. Boundaries were anywhere you could get your fish back to Victoria's inner harbour by 3pm. I believe most teams fished the south end of Vancouver Island and team Reel Obsession fished Wirl bay and Pedder bay for the duration of the morning.
The weather was great until about 10:30am when the wind picked up to about 30 knots within an hour or so. Over the course of the morning we landed 10 springs. Most of these fish were small legal size fish and the largest was 11lbs on the button giving us 7th place for the day, winning us a beautiful new Abel mooching reel worth about $800. Small herring in glow white teaser with a purple glow flasher fished the best for us. The blue berry muffin spoon and no bananas spoon also caught some fish. All fish were caught within 20 feet of bottom in 120-200 feet of water.
This was also the first day I got to fish the new 2550 pursuit I had purchased. This is an exceptional guide boat, and with the brand new 300 HP Mercury Verado this boat is going to be a great asset to the fleet.
The lodge is booking up fast for the coming season. I have a couple slots to fill in June and very few in July and August. Give me a call anytime to discuss a world class fishing adventure and a great price.
